Postdoctoral position (M/F/d)
Investigation of heterogeneous reactions at liquid-vapor interfaces
We are investigating fundamental interactions of ions, surfactants and trace gases at liquid-vapor interfaces, a topic with high relevance for atmospheric and environmental science. Our investigations are carried out using synchrotron-based liquid jet X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy at several synchrotron facilities in close collaboration with the Winter group at FHI. In addition we are using laboratory-based ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy at FHI, coupled with reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy, and standard interface characterization methods such as surface tension. The results of these investigations provide insights into the molecular-scale structure of the liquid-vapor interfaces, which determines transport phenomena such as evaporation and gas adsorption, as well as controls the rate and mechanism of heterogeneous chemical reactions in the atmosphere.

**Profile**:
Applicants are expected to hold an excellent PhD degree in physics, chemistry, or a related fields. Experience in at least one of the areas of photoelectron spectroscopy or infrared spectroscopy is highly beneficial, in addition to familiarity with high vacuum instrumentation. We expect that the applicants are able to work in a highly collaborative environment.
