Our group "Power-to-Liquids" at Fraunhofer ISE deals with the conversion of "green" hydrogen from renewable electricity into liquid energy carriers ("e-fuels") and chemicals. Methanol is a promising target molecule in this context, as it has favorable physical properties for transport and storage, and also has the potential to be used in the transport sector (maritime/aeronautical fuels/intermediate...etc) without significant infrastructure adaptations ("drop-in fuel/chemicals"). For the energy-efficient and economical production of methanol, an innovative process is being developed at Fraunhofer ISE, which will be investigated in detail within the scope of the planned thesis. The topic of your thesis is the "Simulative investigation of efficient power-to-X synthesis - the potential of integrating heat pumps" and in particular the investigation of the combination of power-to-X processes and heat pumps.
