**Visiting Scientist: Development of next-generation genome editing tools (f/m//d)**

**Your tasks and responsibilities**
- Engineer and characterize novel gene editing systems for use in gene therapy at the Genomic Medicine group of Bayer’s R&D division in Wuppertal, Germany.
- Implement and perform miniaturized high-throughput assays for characterization of programmable DNA-modifying enzymes, including bacterial, cell-biological and biochemical assays
- Evaluate activity of various genome editing systems in mammalian cell lines
- Collaborate on cutting edge research in a dynamic genome editing team from diverse life science backgrounds

**Who you are**
- PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, or similar, with an excellent track record of productivity.
- Good understanding of various DNA-modifying enzymes (nucleases and others) and expertise in assay development in this area
- Hands-on experience with next-generation-sequencing-based assays
- Experience with modern protein engineering methods (e.g., deep mutational scanning, domain integrations, circular permutations), a good understanding of protein structure, and previous expertise with cell culture procedures are a plus
- Familiarity with standard bioinformatic tools (Python/R/command-line based)
- Track record of working independently as part of a multidisciplinary team, with excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, capacity for analytical thinking and creativity, as well as enthusiasm for hands-on bench work
- Full proficiency in the English language, both written and spoken. Basic German language skills (or willingness to acquire those) are a plus
