Medical Support Assistant

**Duties**:

- Enters, manipulates, and/or retrieves information and data from automated systems.
- Maintains and monitors patient appointment schedules for the clinic/practice.
- Receives patients and visitors as the initial point of contact, in person or telephonically.
- Monitors and manages the clinic referrals.
- Ensures eligibility for care, and contacts Patient Administration for verification.
- Maintains all patients’ records, both electronic and paper, according to regulation.
- Types routine correspondence, progress reports, medical statements, memoranda, and statistical reports using various automation systems and programs.
- Responds to emergency calls and notifies emergency medical personnel.

- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- Applicants must comply with the Exceptional Family Member Program requirements as outlined in the DoD Instruction 1315.19.
- This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.

**GS-03**

General Experience: Six months of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled, such as, entering and maintaining data in automated systems; greeting patients at reception; AND maintaining appointments.

Education: One year of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
- OR_

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 6. Then divide your semester hours of education by 30. Add the two percentages.

General Experience: One year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled, such as, entering and maintaining data in automated systems; greeting patients at reception; AND maintaining appointments.???????

Education: Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

**GS-05**

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes entering and maintaining data in medical automated systems for a medical clinic or medical setting; referring patients to appropriate medical clinic for treatment; AND maintaining appointments for multiple medical providers within the Medical Treatment Facility. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

- Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
- U.S. citizens overseas under ordinarily resident status are not eligible for appointment under the Status of Forces Agreement.
