- ment of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, within the framework of the Graduate School AGRIPOLY II (Agri
- EXPLORE sub-area) has a vacancy for a fixed term position from the earliest possible date, initially until

31.12.2027 for a

**PhD position (M/F/d)**

to be filled as part-time (50 %).

Remuneration will be paid up to pay group E13 TV-L, depending on the tasks assigned and fulfilment of the

personal requirements.

**Tasks**:

- Optimization of the resistance of maize against the root pest _Diabrotica vergifera_ by enhanced nematode

attraction as part of the DiaResist research project
- Characterization of volatile defense compounds from the roots of maize lines with high resilience against

root pests
- Identification of transcription factors and other components of signal transduction pathways that are in
- duced by herbivore attack, utilizing molecular genetics and genome analysis
- Preparation and presentation of research results at seminars and conferences
- Preparation of research reports and publications for seminars and conferences

The possibility of academic qualification in the form of a doctorate is given.

**Requirements**:

- Completed university degree (MSc, Diploma, or equivalent) in biology, biochemistry, pharmacy or a related

discipline
- Strong interest in plant defense mechanisms against biotic stress and plant specialized compounds
- Experience in techniques of molecular biology, molecular genetics, and biochemistry
- Excellent command of English and good knowledge of German
- High intrinsic motivation and ability to work in a team
