The avionics engineering department works at the core of each spacecraft: We make sure the spacecraft remains under control, make sure all science data is collected. We even make sure that on-board failures are automatically recovered - because in space there is no repair shop. If you like the stars and you like bits and bytes, we might just have the job for you: As Avionics Systems Engineer (m/f/d) you have the opportunity to work in a dedicated & motivated team to define the Avionics Architecture of the spacecraft, design and implement the data handling subsystem and its components (spacecraft control computer, telemetry acquisition units, mass memory units, …) and to develop and verify recovery mechanisms to ensure the spacecraft remains safe and operational for years. Your Tasks Your tasks are mission-dependent and evolve throughout the life cycle of our spacecraft design and implementation process, from initial conception to the support of the launch campaign. Depending on your experience and preferences the tasks may include:Avionics ArchitectureDefine and develop the avionics architecture of the satellite, covering initial sizing, trade-offs, interface budgets and HW performancesManage the avionics subsystems during detailed design and testing phases as design authority. Scope varies per mission and may include data handling, telemetry and telecommand, payload data downlink, laser communications terminal and security subsystemsProgrammatic responsibility of the avionics subsystems and corresponding teams, direct reporting to satellite project managementData interface management and control on physical level and across the protocol stackData Handling SubsystemDesign and specification of the data handling subsystemEvaluation of technical proposals from suppliersTechnical officer guiding the unit procurements throughout the lifecycle (from conception, through design and implementation phases, until unit-level verification)Data handling subsystem integration into the spacecraftUnit- and subsystem verificationFDIR Systems EngineeringDesign, specification, implementation and verification of the FDIR (Failure, Detection, Isolation and Recovery) concept within the satelliteCoordination with subsystem engineers, software developers, satellite systems engineering, operations and RAMSFocal point to the customer for Satellite FDIRStaff development is an important aspect of our work.
