Job Description

This role is responsible for spearheading the technology transfer activities of the MDC, focusing on strategic departmental development and innovation project conception.

Duties:
  • Supervise licensing associates and support staff, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Innovation and Commercialization Office.
  • Manage a growing portfolio of biomedical technologies.
  • IDentify and protect intellectual property.
  • Drive commercialization through licensing and spin-off company creation.
  • Collaborate with industry and assist scientists in securing funding for commercial opportunities.
  • Promote awareness of IP and technology transfer, providing training to scientists and connections with investors and industry experts.
  • Foster partnerships with various stakeholders, including academics, funders, potential licensees, and early-stage investors.
  • Represent the MDC at national and international business organizations, institutions, and platforms.
Requirements:

A successful candidate will possess:

  • A completed degree (Master's level or equivalent) in life sciences, preferably with a doctorate.
  • Further education in business administration or comparable professional experience.
  • Strong knowledge of the funding system for technology transfer projects.
  • Professional experience in science, innovation management, and/or technology transfer in academia or related functions in industry.
  • Sound knowledge and experience in entrepreneurship, spin-offs, licensing, and intellectual property rights.
  • Experience with third-party funding management is desirable.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, critical thinking, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Independent work, strong teamwork, and communication skills.
  • Excellent project management and negotiation skills.
  • Strong conceptual skills for strategy development and implementation, organization development, and processes.
