Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Superintendent to oversee the maintenance program at our Montpelier and Mechanicsville Area Headquarters. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for planning, developing, and delivering all aspects of the maintenance program, ensuring compliance with established schedules and budgets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, plan, and schedule maintenance requests, prioritizing needs and determining equipment, labor, materials, and methods for maintenance, repair, and replacement of various projects.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental requirements and provide technical expertise to solve problems.
  • Direct crews during inclement weather and disaster response, working on weekends, holidays, and after hours as required.
  • Manage performance, apply progressive discipline, and lead emergency operations activities.
  • Develop and manage a budget, monitor inventory, and provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • Considerable experience with highway construction and maintenance equipment, materials, and work methods, practices, and procedures.
  • Experience supervising staff, using computers and software applications, and reading road and bridge sketches.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures.
  • Ability to gather data, maintain accurate records, conduct research, and create reports and correspondence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in maintenance and construction of roads, planning, developing, and managing a budget, and monitoring inventory.
  • DEQ Erosion and Sediment Control certification and a combination of training, experience, or education in Business Administration, Transportation Operations, or a related field.
