Doctoral Scholarship in Metabolic Interaction Network Analysis

The Faculty of Biology and Chemistry at Justus-Liebig-Universität Giessen is offering a doctoral scholarship in the field of metabolic interaction network analysis.

The scholarship is focused on the topic of "Metabolic interaction network of the human host-microbiota for context-specific disease" and is part of a larger research project.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a cutting-edge project that combines computational tools and programming languages with experimental techniques.

Requirements:

  • University degree in Systems Biology, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Mathematics, Biological engineering, or a related field
  • Above-average study and examination results that demonstrate a particular aptitude for scientific work
  • Strong background in computational tools and programming languages (Python, MATLAB) and familiarity with the COBRAPy and GEM software
  • Experience in machine learning, dynamical modeling, big data analysis, microbial genomics, genome-scale modeling, and metabolic network analysis
  • Willingness for active interdisciplinary cooperation and high intrinsic motivation in a team-working
  • High willingness to independently familiarize yourself with new technologies and strengthen your own profile
  • Compliance with the statutes of the Justus-Liebig-Universität Giessen to ensure good scientific practice in all work

The scholarship is granted for 36 months and includes a monthly stipend of 1,200,- € plus a monthly lump sum of 150,- € for material and travel expenses.
