Dental Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Dental Assistant to join our team at U.S. Army Europe and Africa. As a Dental Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our dental team in delivering exceptional services.
Key Responsibilities:- Performs a wide range of reversible intra-oral dental procedures under the direction of the dentist.
- Restores teeth prepared by the dentist with permanent and temporary fillings, including those involving grossly decayed teeth requiring cusp replacement and retentive pins.
- Supports the dentist in endodontic treatments by applying rubber dam, removing temporary filling using a low-speed hand piece, and cleansing and drying the operative field.
- Takes preliminary impressions for study models, modifying the impression tray as needed, and pours and trims models.
- Retracts gingiva from the tooth for final impressions by placing and removing retraction cord.
- Selects, adapts, and seats stainless steel crowns, constructs and cements temporary acrylic crowns and bridges.
- Assists in surgical treatment by applying and removing periodontal and post-extraction dressings, and removing sutures.
- Instructs patients in preventive dental care measures, general nutrition as related to dental health, the common causes of tooth decay, and the care of prosthodontic appliances.
- Performs an oral prophylaxis on ambulatory patients, including deep subgingival scaling, root planing, and curettage under local anesthesia.
- Polishes teeth and applies stannous fluoride for hypersensitivity and caries prevention, and gives home care instructions to patients after curettage.
- Operates dental X-ray equipment to take intra- and extra-oral radiographs.
- Provides chair-side assistance, fully anticipating the dentist's needs for various instruments, materials, and services.
- Completed an apprenticeship of at least 36 months as a Zahnmedizinischer Fachangestellter in accordance with the Berufsbildungsgesetz (BBiG).
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology is required.
- Office Automation Skills are required.
- English and German Language Proficiency Level B2 is required.
This is a temporary full-time position (38.5 hours/week), not to exceed 1 year. The incumbent of this position is occasionally required to perform TDY (Temporary Duty Travel). Employee must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs (ca. 18 kg).
