Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Corrections Sergeant to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a key member of our institutional safety team, you will be responsible for providing first-line supervision to Corrections Officers and Trainees, ensuring a safe and secure environment for all.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and monitor staff on assigned shifts to maintain a safe and secure environment
  • Communicate effectively with management, staff, visitors, inmates, and the public
  • Lead and counsel staff to ensure a productive workforce
  • Complete required training and maintain a working knowledge of correctional policies and procedures
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • Working knowledge of correctional policies and procedures
  • Ability to read and comprehend workplace policies and procedures
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Ability to produce written reports using a computer
  • Fluency in Spanish
