The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) is a leading center for fusion research, developing the physical foundations for a future fusion power plant. We offer a position for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Experimental Physics for Neutral Beam Injection at our Garching site.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team in the department ITER Technology & Diagnostics (ITED). The successful candidate will work on the characterization of neutral beams in terms of injected neutral beam power, beam geometry, and beam composition using all available diagnostic information and integrated data analysis techniques.

Responsibilities:
  • Improved characterization of neutral beams using diagnostic information and integrated data analysis techniques
  • Automation of data analysis to provide accurate beam characterization on a shot-to-shot basis
  • Participation in the broader ASDEX Upgrade physics program through own research proposals
  • Support of the proponents of the ASDEX Upgrade discharges in the optimal use of NBI for their purposes
Requirements:
  • PhD in experimental physics or related field
  • Background in plasma physics
  • Proficiency in programming, ideally including Python
  • Experience in integrated data analysis techniques
  • Knowledge of neutral beam heating and current drive physics

The salary is based on the assignment of tasks and qualifications and goes up to pay group 13 according to the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD Bund).
