Job Description:

The Universität Heidelberg is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Biotechnologist to join our Synthetic DNA Accelerator Lab. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for implementing and optimizing standard laboratory workflows to assemble and diversify synthetic DNA designs using novel and innovative in vitro and in vivo DNA manipulation methods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for DNA assembly and manipulation.
  • Document experimental results and present them at group meetings.
  • Operate the lab's cutting-edge instrumentation, including robots for liquid and microbial colony handling.
  • Manage the lab's instrumentation and user allocation.
  • Interact with customers and handle their requests independently.
  • Train new lab members and visiting researchers to perform DNA manipulation workflows independently.
  • Coordinate shipping of resources to customers and collaborators.
  • Maintain lab safety and keep the lab organized and clean.

Requirements:

  • Advanced theoretical training in (molecular) biotechnology and genetics.
  • Experience in standard molecular biology and microbiology techniques.
  • Proper lab documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
