Senior Biotechnologist

The Universität Heidelberg is seeking a highly motivated and experienced biotechnologist to join our Synthetic DNA Accelerator Lab as a Bioengineer. In this role, you will play a crucial part in driving the adaptation of synthetic genomics approaches and developing innovative techniques for DNA manipulation.

About the Position

This is an exceptional opportunity to work at the forefront of a rapidly developing field, contributing to the pioneering work of the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung Center for Synthetic Genomics. As a Bioengineer, you will be responsible for:

• Implementing and optimizing standard laboratory workflows for assembling and diversifying synthetic DNA designs using novel in vitro and in vivo DNA manipulation methods.
• Documenting experimental results and presenting them at group meetings.
• Operating the lab's cutting-edge instrumentation, including robots for liquid and microbial colony handling.
• Keeping the lab's instrumentation operable and managing user allocation.
• Interacting with customers and handling their requests independently.
• Training new lab members and visiting researchers to perform DNA manipulation workflows independently.
• Coordinating the shipping of resources to customers and collaborators.
• Maintaining lab safety and ensuring the lab remains well-organized and clean.
• Keeping track of lab stocks, ordering consumables, and managing waste.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• Exceptional motivation and a willingness to learn and adapt new techniques, protocols, and methodologies.
• Advanced theoretical training in (molecular) biotechnology and genetics.
• Experience in standard molecular biology and microbiology techniques, such as molecular cloning and PCR.
• Proven expertise in proper lab documentation.
• Strong communication skills in English.
