This position is located at the Lawrenceville Correctional Center in Virginia. The Licensed Practical Nurse will provide evidence-based nursing care to patients and employees, utilizing the nursing process and principles of general nursing care. The LPN will screen for sick call, administer medications, and provide first aid and basic life support as needed.
Responsibilities- Provide total health care to offenders, maintaining continuity of care from admission to discharge in a correctional facility.
- Screen for sick call, administer medications, and provide first aid and basic life support to patients and employees as needed.
- Maintain open lines of communication with security and treatment staff while providing input and feedback to assist the facility provider in organizing a treatment plan.
- Record all pertinent information into the medical record.
- Interface with other departments as needed.
- Promote continued competence through education/certification with a focus on correctional nursing.
- Work hours, days, and locations as assigned, and be capable and available to provide coverage as needed to meet institutional needs.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Valid unrestricted Virginia LPN license issued by the board of nursing or a multi-state compact license.
- Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals.
- Experience in carrying out provider's orders in applying treatments.
- Maintaining appropriate documentation.
- Competent first aid skills.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Experience working in a Corrections or Law enforcement environment.
- Experience or related training in delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care.
