Job Summary
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team in a correctional setting. As a LPN, you will provide high-quality patient care to offenders in a secure environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide evidence-based nursing care to patients, utilizing the nursing process and principles of general nursing care.
- Screen patients for sick call, administer medications, and provide first aid and basic life support as needed.
- Maintain open lines of communication with security and treatment staff, providing input and feedback to assist in organizing a treatment plan.
- Record all pertinent information into the medical record.
- Interface with other departments as needed.
- Promote continued competence through education and certification, with a focus on correctional nursing.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Valid unrestricted Virginia LPN license or a multi-state compact license.
- Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals.
- Experience in carrying out provider's orders in applying treatments.
- Maintaining appropriate documentation.
- Competent first aid skills.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a corrections or law enforcement environment.
- Experience or related training in delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care.
Working Conditions
This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.
