About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Optical Systems Engineer to join our team at TOMRA. As an Optical Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the development of sensor components for our sorting machines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, test, and evaluate spectroscopic imaging systems, high-power laser optics, and their components.
  • Evaluate optical parts from second sources/end-of-life (EOL) and implement continuous improvement of optical sensor systems.
  • Define, plan, and implement test tools and setups, and develop optical component specifications.
  • Provide technical support to production, strategic purchasing, and quality assurance departments.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or diploma in applied physics, optical engineering, or a similar field.
  • Experience with optical detectors, optical spectrometers, and analogue electronics.
  • Background in physics (laser), preferably with knowledge and experience with pulsed lasers.
  • Knowledge of optical design tools (Zemax) or circuit modelling software (LTSPICE) is an advantage.
  • Broad technical interests: keen to expand knowledge in optics, electronics, optical material classification, and software engineering.
  • Analytical and systematic approach with a drive for innovative solutions.
  • Programming skills, in particular in Python, are an advantage.
  • Fluent English, at least a basic knowledge of German.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.
