Job Description

The successful candidate will represent polymer engineering in research and academic education, leading a working group at the Materials Science and Engineering Unit of IAM. This professorship is associated with an executive position in the Department of Polymer Engineering at the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology ICT in Pfinztal.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent polymer engineering in research and academic education
  • Lead a working group at the Materials Science and Engineering Unit of IAM
  • Head the Department of Polymer Engineering at the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology ICT
  • Focus on polymer materials and their processing, material composites, characterization, circularity/lifecycle assessment, and related process, plant, and tool technologies
  • Develop and teach courses in German and English on theoretical and practical fundamentals of plastics and their processing for the Master's Programs of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Technology
  • Contribute to the development of academic programs and research initiatives in the field of polymer engineering
Requirements
  • Comprehensive experience in several areas of polymer engineering
  • Excellent reputation resulting from scientific achievements of international visibility or corresponding work in industry
  • Leadership experience and ability to work in a team
  • Teaching aptitude and ability to communicate complex ideas effectively
  • Ability to cooperate across disciplines and acquire public and private third-party funding
  • Adequate participation in academic self-administration work
