Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Climate Research Scientist to join our team at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK). The successful candidate will work on analyzing extreme weather events in Europe, focusing on hot-dry extremes and their potential future risks.

This project involves investigating changes in extreme heatwave risk using state-of-the-art climate models, machine learning tools, and advanced statistical methods. You will have the opportunity to contribute to crucial research on understanding and predicting extreme weather events that may not be captured by some models.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A PhD degree in physics, mathematics/statistics, climate science, or a related field is required.
  • Strong background in climate and atmospheric sciences, as well as experience with machine learning and time series analysis, is essential.
  • Coding skills in Python, Matlab, or R, along with practical experience with High Performance Computing and scientific programming, are necessary.
  • Expertise in scientific data analysis and the ability to work independently are also required.
