Research Scientist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our international research project MOSMIN. The successful candidate will be responsible for acquiring seismic data at partner mining sites and using ambient seismic noise to enable high-resolution structural characterization and monitoring of structures related to mining activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop novel, efficient acquisition and evaluation concepts for ambient seismic noise (tomography)
  • Use and improve processing routines and develop new methods to use ambient noise to characterize and monitor the internal structure of mine dumps
  • Participate in the conception, planning, and implementation of passive seismic measurements and seismic field experiments in mining sites
  • Collaborate with project partners to integrate ambient noise data and tools into the project toolset
  • Support the PI in preparing materials for project reports and deliveries
  • Publish results in peer-reviewed journals and present at meetings and international conferences
Requirements:
  • Master's degree and PhD in geophysics (preferred), physics, geology, or related disciplines
  • Knowledge and experience with passive seismic methods (especially ambient noise and tomography)
  • Good numeracy and programming skills (Python, Matlab, C, C++)
  • Ability, willingness, and interest to travel to project meetings and to participate in and conduct field trials abroad
  • Experience with seismological field work
  • Experience with industry-related projects and with the creation of services and products therein
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team
  • Good English language skills
  • Drivers License B
