Your Role

We are seeking highly motivated Doctoral researchers to be employed at the Department of Physics and Materials Science of the University of Luxembourg. The primary focus will be on setting up exciting experiments involving the development of advanced ultrafast tools and techniques. These will be utilised to investigate fundamental light-matter interaction processes occurring on the femtosecond timescale.

The experimental activity aims to explore electron-electron and electron-phonon dynamics in layered and 2D materials, metallic/semiconducting nanostructures, and strongly correlated systems. Furthermore, we plan to exploit the electric field of single-cycle pulses to drive ultrafast currents in nanocircuits with the potential to study electronic transport in quantized systems with unprecedented temporal resolution.

The research activity will be based on developing novel ultrafast laser sources that can operate at high repetition rates while maintaining the ability to generate pulses approaching the single-cycle duration combined with broad tunability from UV to the THz frequency range. By pushing the experimental sensitivity to its limits, it will be possible to study fundamental processes in physical systems where dimensionality plays a key role.

The available projects include:

  • Ultrafast Plasmonics: Investigating ultrafast phenomena in single metallic and semiconducting nanostructures with sub-optical-cycle precision.
  • Dynamical Phenomena: Examining dynamic events in condensed matter via advanced ultrafast techniques such as pump-probe, THz, and 2D spectroscopy.
  • Ultrafast Laser Sources: Developing novel ultrafast laser sources based on nonlinear optics concepts.

Profile Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants should possess a Master's degree in Physics or similar subjects. Additionally, they should demonstrate curiosity, self-motivation, and preferably experience in ultrafast optics and ultrafast lasers.

Location and Language
