About the Role

We're on a mission to reduce single-use plastic impact on our planet. As a Material Scientist, you'll play a crucial role in developing sustainable, high-performance, and cost-effective fibre-based packaging prototypes.

You'll work closely with our data team to enable data-driven decision-making, providing critical domain expertise to support the development of key data models. This will accelerate innovation and reduce costs.

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract position, reporting to Lucio D'Andrea, Head of Research & Development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, evaluate, and execute prototypes, integrating off-the-shelf technologies and developing new technologies with external partners and internal teams.
  • Conduct monitoring and reporting to ensure successful prototype completion, capturing learnings throughout the process.
  • Identify and facilitate the transfer of promising technologies from public and private research centres to the market.
  • Incorporate economic, market, and life cycle analyses into the decision-making process for prototypes.
  • Deliver comprehensive reports and recommendations based on internal and external data, leveraging software platforms and dashboard tools.
  • Share expertise and insights with the broader team to elevate overall knowledge and capabilities.
Requirements
  • Passion for sustainability.
  • Experience in designing and executing experiments in the lab, with a focus on creating and testing prototypes.
  • Optimal experience with polymer science and surface chemistry.
  • Extensive commercial industrial experience in applied Material Science.
  • Ideal candidate has several years of working experience in a commercial platform business.
  • Ambitious in organizing and coordinating the overall project plan from initial idea to final implementation.
  • Persistent in designing and conducting trials to generate data for future development.
  • Fluency in English, as this is our working language.
  • Fluency in German is a bonus, for occasional communication with customers and external partners.
