About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join our team at the Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum (DKFZ) in Heidelberg. As a Data Scientist, you will play a key role in developing and implementing computational methods and workflows to analyze genomic and epigenomic alterations in childhood cancers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and train machine learning models to improve DNA methylation tumor classifiers
  • Work with large cancer datasets to identify novel therapeutic targets and improve diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of childhood cancers
  • Collaborate with international teams to advance clinical cancer research and translational innovation
  • Interact with Heidelberg Epignostix GmbH to develop commercial applications of our research
Requirements
  • PhD and master's degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, biostatistics, computer science, or a related field
  • 2+ years of postdoctoral experience in bioinformatics and computational biology
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with Linux/Unix command line and programming languages (e.g., R, Python, Bash)
  • Desired experience in database management (SQL) and app development (e.g., Shiny)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
