Lead Mechanical Designer

Job Summary

Hatch is seeking a highly skilled Lead Mechanical Designer to join our Project Delivery Group (PDG). As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the development of functional plant arrangements and providing input to engineering management, engineering leads, and senior designers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement plant arrangement strategies to ensure efficient and safe plant operations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to coordinate layout changes and ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Provide input to engineering work packages and man hour budgets for layout and general arrangement development
  • Assist in the preparation and issue of project-specific layout design criteria
  • Coordinate with client representatives on layout matters and ensure continuous coordination between functional groups
  • Resolve clashes and prioritize space allocation to ensure effective plant layout
  • Participate in client and internal project meetings to ensure alignment and progress

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 10 years of mechanical design experience on major multi-discipline projects
  • Good understanding of maintainability, constructability, safety, and operating issues related to equipment
  • Strong ability to analyze consequences of layout changes and prioritize best solutions as design progresses
  • Good organizational skills and ability to manage individuals to attain quality, cost, and schedule objectives
  • Strong leadership and coordination skills
  • Fluency in German and English

Desirable

  • A high degree of understanding of construction methodologies
  • A high degree of understanding of commissioning methodologies
  • Extensive experience and understanding in the use of procedures and workflow in the execution of projects
  • Reasonable experience and understanding in the application of design systems for the discipline that support a 3D data-centric design environment
