Optics Engineer

Corning is seeking a highly skilled Optics Engineer to join our team. As an Optics Engineer, you will play a critical role in the development and transfer of optical interconnects and fiber optics hardware to production.
Key Responsibilities- Project Participation: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement optical interconnects and fiber optics hardware with worldwide impact.
- Product Development: Lead the development of new products and processes, including component selection and evaluation based on customer requirements.
- Feasibility Studies: Conduct feasibility studies and design experiments to identify key performance parameters and optimize product design.
- Optomechanical Testing: Perform optomechanical testing and characterization of optical interconnects and subcomponents.
- Engineering Design Reviews: Participate in engineering design reviews to ensure compliance with company standards and customer requirements.
- Technology Evaluation: Evaluate semi-automated and automated assembly technologies to improve product quality and efficiency.
- Technical Reporting: Write technical reports and specifications to document product development and testing.
- Education: Master's Degree or similar in Engineering, Physics, or optics/optomechanics related discipline.
- Skills: Fundamental knowledge in optical connectors, passive optical components, transmission systems, optical fibers, and photonic integrated circuits. Experience in optomechanical and optoelectrical design, high precision alignment techniques, and analytical skills.
- Software: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with electrical design software (ProE, ANSYS, ZEMAX, or similar).
- Language: Fluent English (spoken and written).
- Advanced Education: PhD in optics related discipline.
- Specialized Knowledge: Knowledge in fiber optics and photonic integrated circuits.
- Industry Experience: 3-5 years prior experience in the optical communication industry.
- Software Proficiency: Experience in programming (Python or similar) and quality management of processes (Six sigma).
- Independence: Ability to work unsupervised and schedule time effectively.
- Cultural Competence: Ability to work across regional boundaries and cultures.
- Initiative: Drive and commitment to implement new processes and products.
