Optics Engineer

Corning is seeking a highly skilled Optics Engineer to join our team. As an Optics Engineer, you will play a key role in the development and transfer of optical interconnects and fiber optics hardware to production.
Key Responsibilities- Project Participation: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement projects with worldwide impact on optical interconnects and fiber optics hardware.
- Product Development: Lead the development of new products and processes, including component selection and evaluation based on customer requirements.
- Feasibility Studies: Conduct feasibility studies and design experiments to identify key performance parameters.
- Optomechanical Testing: Perform optomechanical testing and characterization of optical interconnects and subcomponents.
- Engineering Design Reviews: Participate in engineering design reviews to ensure compliance with company standards and customer requirements.
- Technology Evaluation: Evaluate semi-automated and automated assembly technologies to improve manufacturing efficiency.
- Technical Reporting: Write technical reports and specifications to document project progress and results.
- Education: Master's Degree or similar in Engineering, Physics, or optics/optomechanics related discipline.
- Skills: Fundamental knowledge in optical connectors, passive optical components, transmission systems, optical fibers, photonic integrated circuits, and semiconductor packaging. Experience in optomechanical and optoelectrical design, high precision alignment techniques, and analytical skills.
- Software: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with electrical design software (ProE, ANSYS, ZEMAX, or similar).
- Language: Fluent English (spoken and written).
- Advanced Education: PhD in optics related discipline.
- Specialized Knowledge: Knowledge in fiber optics and photonic integrated circuits.
- Industry Experience: 3-5 years prior experience in the optical communication industry.
- Programming Skills: Experience in programming (Python or similar).
- Quality Management: Experience in quality management of processes (Six sigma).
- Independence: Ability to work unsupervised and schedule time effectively.
- Cultural Competence: Ability to work across regional boundaries and cultures.
- Initiative: Drive and commitment to implement new processes and products.
