Job DescriptionWe are seeking a highly skilled Climate Model Development Specialist to join our team at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics. As part of this research field, your tasks will include:
- Literature Research and Shadow Modeling
- Conduct thorough literature research and apply findings to train shadow models of QML-based parameterizations.
- Develop and test shadow models that retain the properties of QML models while running on classical computers.
- Couple the shadow models with the ICON climate model.
- Simulation Evaluation
- Evaluate simulations using the ESMValTool.
- Compare results with conventional models and observational data.
- Document and create software for simulation evaluation.
- A completed scientific university degree in physics, mathematics, meteorology, or a comparable field of study.
- A very good doctorate in physics, meteorology, mathematics, data science, computer science, or a comparable field of study.
- Experience working independently on complex research tasks.
- Proven scientific excellence through publications.
- Experience dealing with large amounts of data and machine learning methods.
- Advanced knowledge of quantum computing or climate modeling.
- Very good programming skills, preferably Python.
- Excellent English language skills.
- Willingness to travel.
- Very good communication and teamwork skills.
