About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our team at Barrington James, a cutting-edge technology company at the forefront of addressing infectious diseases. As a key member of our dedicated team, you will play a pivotal role in developing computational software solutions that contribute to the global effort in combating infectious diseases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain high-quality software solutions focused on infectious diseases.
  • Implement novel algorithms and computational methods for the interpretation and visualisation of biological data, with a focus on accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including domain experts, to gather requirements and ensure the software meets the needs of end-users.
  • Write clean and efficient code, adhering to best practices and coding standards (preferably using Python).
  • Work closely with non-software development domain experts to understand their needs and incorporate their insights into the software development process.
  • Apply knowledge and experience in AI/ML, bioinformatics, immunology, or related fields to enhance software functionality and capabilities.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
  • Several years of professional experience in software development, preferably in a bioinformatics or computational biology context.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Expertise developing scientific/computational pipelines, for example Nextflow, Cromwell/WDL, Snakemake.
  • Expertise using orchestration frameworks such as Prefect and containerisation tools like Docker.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms like GCP, and continuous integration tools like GitHub Actions.
  • Experience collaborating with domain experts who are not primarily software developers.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML, bioinformatics, immunology, or related fields.
