Sustainable finance plays a crucial role in facilitating the transition to a low-carbon and sustainable economy by directing investments towards projects with clear environmental and social benefits.
Moody's anticipates that the issuance of green, social, sustainability, and sustainability-linked (GSSS) bonds will reach $950 billion in the near future. Consequently, there is a growing demand for precise evaluations of the sustainability credentials associated with an organization's bond and loan offerings.
Our Second Party Opinions (SPOs) provide clarity on whether GSSS financial instruments and/or financing frameworks align with market standards and their potential sustainability impact. As an SPO provider, we aim to uphold the integrity and transparency of a market that is becoming increasingly intricate, encompassing a wider array of sectors and technologies.

The Role:
The Sustainable Finance Analyst will focus on supporting the Second Party Opinion team by delivering various support services that enhance the overall analysis conducted by the team. This primarily internal role involves data analysis through discrete analytical tasks that support presentations and analyses, with minimal direct supervision. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in and knowledge of the sustainable finance sector. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a rapidly evolving and dynamic field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and update spreadsheets, charts, and tables: Identify trends in data and apply reasoning to the work being completed; initiate deeper analysis when necessary.
- Analyze sustainability data to conduct preliminary assessments.
- Develop a working knowledge of our SPO assessment framework and Moody's processes, applying this knowledge to analyses with guidance.
- Prepare presentation materials for outreach initiatives.
- Support ongoing SPOs by monitoring news and industry sources regularly; flag items that require further analysis by lead analysts.
- Assist with the analytical administration process and perform other routine administrative and ad hoc tasks as directed by senior team members.
- Maintain high quality in all results, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
- Deliver results within agreed timeframes and escalate competing priorities to the team manager for guidance.
- Provide support and serve as a resource to other associate analysts as needed, under the direct supervision of the team manager.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree student in a relevant field or equivalent qualifications required.
- Relevant work or internship experience in sustainable finance or financial analysis is strongly desired.
- Professional proficiency in English and German is essential; additional languages commonly used in EMEA, such as Arabic or Dutch, are a plus.
- Solid knowledge of MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Proven verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to adapt to a changing environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, accurate work.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
