Creative Color Strategist

OBJECTIVE & SIGNIFICANCE FOR THE ORGANIZATION

The role focuses on crafting exceptional designs for Footwear and/or Apparel by utilizing innovative color palettes, materials, and construction techniques.

PRIMARY DUTIES

Maintain a keen awareness of the information necessary to create a collection that resonates with both consumers and the brand. This includes gathering insights from various sources:

  • Industry exhibitions, cultural happenings, and sports events, along with insights from athletes
  • Trade journals, lifestyle publications, trend forecasting services, and fashion and sportswear media
  • Retail assessments, market explorations, and team excursions as needed
  • Relevant projections and sales data from Marketing teams

Aids in establishing seasonal and long-term design strategies for their category, focusing on:

  • Color schemes for Footwear and Apparel
  • Material selections for Footwear
  • Design silhouettes
  • Graphic and print direction
  • Developing 3D concept representations and digital product information to facilitate accurate development and decision-making

Contributes to the design direction through various means, including:

  • Delivering trend forecasting insights relevant to our target audience and brand
  • Collaborating with the Material Team to guide material development
  • Partnering with local and global teams to provide category-specific color and material guidance as needed
  • Supporting the Senior Team Lead in creating content for collaborative stakeholders across Marketing, Product Management, Design, and other teams

Collaborates closely with members of the design team, which includes:

  • Offering color and material insights and guidance
  • Engaging in collaborative discussions and critiques
  • Understanding the technical aspects of the products

Develops overarching range strategies for their product line, which encompasses:

  • Assisting the Senior Team Lead in managing comprehensive category overviews, rollouts, and merchandising strategies
  • Facilitating communication with Footwear, Apparel, and Graphics Teams to ensure strategic alignment
  • Leading product narratives and rollout plans in collaboration with Design, Marketing, and other departments

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

Designs color and material executions for Footwear products, incorporating feedback from Design, Marketing, and Development teams. This includes:

  • Seasonal preparation and research
  • Creating product design presentations in both physical and digital formats
  • Engaging in an exploratory process to achieve final design solutions
  • Producing Color CADs, Material Maps, and Graphic Maps
  • Considering the broader implications of creating a cohesive product range
  • Collaborating with Development to assist in the development process and cost management, adhering to timelines and seasonal milestones
  • Traveling for development purposes as required
  • Assisting in conveying inspiration and storytelling to Marketing

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Proficiency in computer applications
  • Expertise in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Familiarity with PowerPoint and Keynote
  • Experience with Apple Mac Operating systems
  • 3D design skills are advantageous but not mandatory
  • Understanding of brand history and current market positioning
  • Knowledge of the footwear/streetwear/urban market landscape
  • Strong grasp of color and material trends and their applications
  • Ability to conceptualize design ideas effectively
  • Capability to create designs that align with category needs and market opportunities
  • Innovative approach to new initiatives and products
  • Adaptability to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment

  • Strong 3D skills and knowledge of virtual design tools are essential

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial, graphic, apparel, or footwear design
  • Relevant experience in footwear design, fashion design, or a related field
  • Comprehensive knowledge of art and design principles
  • Minimum of three years of relevant work experience
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
