Transportation Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transportation Assistant to join our team at U.S. Army Europe and Africa. As a key member of our logistics team, you will be responsible for coordinating the transportation of goods and materials across various modes of transportation, including government and commercial truck, vessel, rail, and air.
Key Responsibilities:- Coordinate the shipment of freight, including arranging for the most economical mode of transportation and processing associated documents.
- Determine the specific methods of shipment for a wide range of items, including office supplies, precision test equipment, and large shipping/storage containers.
- Route shipments via government and commercial carriers, considering factors such as urgency, freight charges, and carrier availability.
- Initiate freight release orders and create vehicle load orders for various modes of transportation.
- Review and validate shipping documents to ensure correctness and accuracy.
- Identify the need for special packing, loading, or handling and coordinate arrangements with other activity personnel and carriers.
- Prepare related documents for shipments with technical requirements, such as classified, hazardous, high-priority, signature service, and expedited shipments.
- Conduct post-audits on documentation and take corrective action.
- Schedule and coordinate carrier pick-up and delivery of freight, as well as intra-shop movement of inbound and outbound shipments.
- 2 years of creditable experience in clerical work, including working with computers, bookkeeping, making and recording inventories, telephone marketing, arranging for events, or as a cashier.
- Experience in the same or similar line of work as the job for which considered, demonstrating the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required in the position.
- German driver's license class B and ability to obtain and maintain a forklift operator license.
- Office automation skills and proficiency in English and German languages (B2 level).
This is a temporary, full-time position (38.5 hours/week) not to exceed 30-JUN-2026 or the return of the permanent incumbent. The incumbent may be required to perform TDY (Temporary Duty Travel) within Germany and must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
