Transportation Assistant

Join the U.S. Army Europe and Africa team as a Transportation Assistant, responsible for coordinating and executing freight shipments and transportation support functions. This role requires strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:- Coordinate and arrange for the most economical shipment of freight, using local transportation management offices and established procedures.
- Process associated documents and perform various tasks associated with the movement of materials to customers worldwide.
- Determine specific methods of shipments for a wide range of items, including office supplies, precision test equipment, and large shipping/storage containers.
- Route shipments via government and commercial truck, vessel, rail, or air, and initiate freight release orders.
- Recommend changes in routing or mode of transportation for more economical rates, to meet required delivery dates.
- Utilize applicable tenders and tariffs to complete a manual rating process based on freight classification, type of equipment utilized, weight, and mileage criteria.
- Review automated documentation for all types of shipments, taking appropriate action to correct any invalid, void, or missing information.
- Validate shipping documents, such as DD1149's, AE302 (Customer Clearance Document), Commercial Waybill (AWB), DD1384 (MilAir Movement Document), USPS Form 3877, and any updated forms that pertain shipping to ensure correctness.
- Applicants must be in possession of a German driver's license class B.
- Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a forklift operator license.
- Office automation skills are required.
- English Language Proficiency level B2 is required, and German Language Proficiency level B2 is also required.
This is a 1x temporary, full-time position (38.5 hrs/week), not to exceed 30-JUN-2026 or the return of the permanent incumbent. The incumbent of this position is occasionally required to perform TDY (Temporary Duty Travel) within Germany. Employee must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
