Join Our Team as a PhD Student in Nonlinear Optimization and Inverse Problems

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD student to join our Research Group in Nonlinear Optimization and Inverse Problems at the Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS). As a PhD student, you will work on mathematical optimal control problems in connection with powder bed-based processes for metallic 3D printing.

About the Project

Our research group focuses on developing and applying mathematical models and numerical methods for solving inverse problems in various fields, including nonlinear optimization and control. In this project, you will investigate mathematical optimal control problems in connection with powder bed-based processes for metallic 3D printing. You will work closely with our team to develop and apply mathematical models, numerical methods, and computational tools to solve these problems.

About the Role

We are looking for a highly motivated and talented PhD student with a strong background in mathematics or a closely related field. You should have a master's degree in mathematics or a related field and a strong background in at least two of the following areas: mathematical modelling, nonlinear optimization/optimal control, analysis of partial differential equations, numerical simulation of partial differential equations. Previous experience in the analytical or numerical treatment of direct or inverse problems in thermomechanics is an advantage.
