For over two centuries, the Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung has been a leading institution in the field of nature and biodiversity research. With a global network of scientists from over 40 countries across 12 locations in Germany, the organization conducts research in biodiversity, Earth system analysis, and climate change. Its mission is to analyze and document biodiversity in Earth system dynamics to serve science and society.
The Department of River Ecology and Conservation at Senckenberg, in cooperation with the Faculty of Biology at the University of Duisburg-Essen, invites applications for two Postdoctoral Researchers (Ecologists) to work on a range of projects, including the MARCO-BOLO project and the Biodiversity Meets Data (BMD) project. The successful candidates will have a strong background in community ecology, macroecology, metacommunities, and/or analysis of ecological time series.
The applicants will be responsible for analyzing spatial and temporal biodiversity and environmental data to elucidate spatial patterns and temporal trends in taxonomic and functional diversity and drivers thereof. They will also contribute to the research of the MARCO-BOLO and BMD projects and conduct research on global change impacts on biodiversity within the framework of other projects in the department. Additionally, they will develop Virtual Research Environments (VREs) and mentor graduate students.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Ecology or a related field, a solid background in (macro-) ecology and zoology, advanced skills in statistical analyses, preferably using R, and a strong track record of international publications. Excellent written and oral communication and project presentation skills are also essential.
The contract will be for two years with a possible extension. Salary and benefits are according to a public service position in Germany (TV-H E13, 100%; part-time at least 75%).
