Senior Optical Systems Engineer

OHB System AG is a leading space company in Europe, with a strong presence in Bremen and Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich. We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer – Instrument Performance to join our team.
About the RoleWe are looking for a talented engineer to contribute to the development of advanced optical instruments in one of our large space projects. As a Systems Engineer – Instrument Performance, you will be responsible for the simulation of the instrument's performances and datasets, as well as the derivation of requirements on subsystem level and the maintenance of technical budgets.
Key Responsibilities- Elaborate and model the performance of an electro-optical instrument, considering all possible contributors such as optical design and detector characteristics or structural stability.
- Ensure proper flow-down of customer requirements to technical requirements and/or subsystem requirements, allocating technical budgets accordingly.
- Develop and analyze instrument calibration concepts for on-ground and in-flight.
- Regularly update the system's technical budgets during the program lifetime.
- Perform or support instrument design trade-offs, identify and analyze mitigation options.
- Define work packages together with different internal specialists and with external sub-contractors in a multidiscipline engineering team (Optics, Mechanics, Thermal, Structure).
- Align the activities with the systems engineering work plan.
- Review sub-contractor analysis results (analytical models) and documents, like technical proposals, technical reports, or specifications.
- Monitor the compliance to customer requirements.
- Support the definition of control loops (thermal control: development of plant models incl. system identification, physical modelling, parameter estimation).
- Support technical discussion with customer or supplier.
- University / polytechnic degree or PhD in a scientific or engineering subject (Physics, Aerospace Engineering).
- Proficient in at least one of the following categories: technical and physical optics, spectrometry and optical instruments, hands-on experience in the application of control theory and detailed knowledge concerning the definition of control systems, mathematical modelling and simulation.
- Experience with the programming languages Python and/or MATLAB and data processing.
- Strong analytical skills, good communication and negotiation skills.
- Fluent in English in reading and writing.
