About the Role

ASafe Global is a leading provider of innovative solutions in Quality, Environmental, Health, and Safety Management, as well as expert Staffing & Recruitment services for various industries worldwide.

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior EHS Manager to oversee multiple projects and personnel in Frankfurt. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in the EHS field, particularly in critical industries such as data centers, oil & gas, or pharmaceuticals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as a subject matter expert for general contractors, development delivery, and operational management as needed.
  • Collaboration and Risk Management: Collaborate with the procurement department to participate in general contractor, third-party risk management, pre-qualification questionnaire, and request for proposal processes.
  • Progress Reporting: Conduct monthly reviews with the EH&S Director and Senior EH&S Director and provide monthly progress reports for EMEA.
  • EHS Site Inspections: Perform EHS site inspections and audits of general contractors on the tender list for compliance.
  • Incident Investigations: Participate in the safety-in-design process, lead investigations of incidents and accidents, and support general contractor safety improvement plans when necessary.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Review and approve monthly EHS report compliance across designated projects, ensuring submission by the 2nd day of the following month.
  • Environmental Aspects and Impacts: Enhance the environmental aspects and impacts program across EMEA, verify environmental impact assessment compliance, and supervise VDC Procore system compliance.
  • Mentorship and Guidance: Mentor and provide guidance to site EH&S Advisors and Managers on implementing and maintaining effective EH&S systems, policies, procedures, KPI compliance, RAMS processes, operational and construction interface activities, and contractual requirements.
  • EHS Onboarding: Conduct EHS onboarding for site EH&S Advisors and Managers, hold weekly one-on-one TEAMS calls for support, and visit sites at agreed times throughout project durations to monitor performance.
  • Culture and Wellness: Promote VDC's Vision Zero culture of caring philosophy with respect to EH&S standards, behaviors, and performance, and lead EH&S wellness initiatives and campaigns for designated projects, aligning with other international regions.
  • Reviews and Continuous Improvement: Participate in bi-annual EHS Safety Management System Reviews to incorporate lessons learned, customer requirements, and best practices, and ensure these lessons are shared across all EMEA sites.
  • Customer Engagement: Attend customer meetings (e.g., biweekly progress meetings, incident close-out meetings) and site walks as required.
  • Statutory Obligations: Ensure the necessary appointment of general contractors under statutory obligations, including VDC fit-out activities for projects.
  • Continuous Improvement: Challenge norms and drive continuous improvement in EHS initiatives.
  • Awards and Recognition: Participate in the annual selection and awards for general contractor EHS winners and assist with the annual preparation and execution of Construction Safety Week.
  • Corporate Social Responsibility: Act as an ambassador for corporate social responsibility initiatives and programs.
  • Legislative Updates: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislative changes, communicate their impact to the EH&S Director, Senior EH&S Director, and key stakeholders, and attend courses and seminars run by external sources to ensure accurate interpretation and implementation of EH&S legislation.
  • Adaptability: Adapt to changes or expansions in duties within the general scope of your position as the business of VDC evolves, ensuring no tasks are beyond your capability.
Requirements
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in EHS, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
  • Experience in critical industries such as data centers, oil & gas, or pharmaceuticals is preferred.
  • Proven ability as a client/owner representative and in regulatory engagement.
  • Fluent in German with a comprehensive understanding of German EHS legislation.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise, speak, and present effectively to senior management.
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • In-depth understanding of local, state, and federal HSE regulations with a track record in developing and implementing HSE programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Certification such as Certified Safety Professional, ISO, NEBOSH, or equivalent is preferred.
