Job Summary

The Career Development Specialist will provide employability and life skills programs to inmates, facilitating their transition to successful reentry into society. This role is a grant-funded position housed within the Department of Corrections, with the possibility of covering multiple institutions based on workload and proximity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement employability and life skills programs, including facilitation of assessments and delivery of the 100-Hour Transition Skills Education program curriculum.
  • Administer and interpret assessments to identify inmate needs and develop individualized plans for reentry.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of services delivered and facilitate pre-release connections with community providers and employers.
  • Collaborate with department officials to develop and implement programs, such as Thinking for a Change.
  • Provide training and support to inmates on job search, recruitment, and placement activities.
Requirements

An Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university and one year of related work experience or a high school diploma and three (3) years of professional experience in workforce development, social services, corrections, or a related field.

Knowledge of administrative principles and practices, office procedures, data collection methods, effective communication techniques, and proficient computer skills in Excel and Microsoft Word software.

Ability to work independently with limited supervision, understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
