Career Development Specialist

Key Responsibilities

The Career Development Specialist will be responsible for facilitating employability and life skills, administering and interpreting assessments, and providing training in the Compass 100 hybrid curriculum and Thinking for a Change. This includes providing services related to Compass 100 Hybrid and supplemental in-cell assignments through cell-front instruction for eligible participants in restrictive housing, as well as services related to Compass 100 Hybrid and Thinking for a Change through small group settings for eligible participants not in restrictive housing.

Requirements

  • An Associate Degree from an accredited college or university and one year of related work experience, or a high school diploma and three years of professional experience in workforce development, social services, corrections, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of administrative principles and practices, office procedures and practices, methods of data collection, and the principles and techniques of effective communication.
  • Proficient computer skills in Excel and Microsoft Word software, as well as the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, and to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, organize, and complete work assignments with accuracy, and to maintain cooperative working relationships with others.

Working Conditions

The Career Development Specialist will work in a secured prison setting, interacting with inmates and officials who carry guns. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances is essential.
