About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineering Department Head to join our team at Volocopter GmbH. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for managing and leading our team of Engineering Managers across various sub-functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and lead the Mechanical Engineering department, ensuring that our product development strategy is robust and forward-thinking.
- Ensure that our business adheres to national and international regulations, delivering results that meet time, cost, and quality expectations.
- Foster efficient and transparent communication with other CTO areas as well as cross-functional teams to drive seamless collaboration.
- Assign product development activities to engineering teams and manage priorities.
- Provide technical and disciplinary leadership to direct reports through coaching and mentorship.
- Proactively identify hiring and training needs for the team to ensure availability of relevant resources and competencies.
- Ensure, maintain and improve high standards of development quality within the team by establishing good practices and following the design organization's (DO) processes.
- Ensure communication flow and alignment towards and from the departments, stakeholders within and outside of the CTO organization.
- Collaborate with other CTO-departments and cross-functional areas to guarantee best company results.
- Establish conditions within the department to deliver the requested results in time, cost, and quality.
- Manage the departmental budget.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in departments main technical field (Mechanical Engineering)
- PHD or Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline or comparable, for example: Master's in economics, business, and engineering, or comparable study program.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and work cross-functionally.
- Experience with leading motivated and high performing teams and managers, comfortable with change, high level of flexibility and efficiency.
- Provide clarity through holistic understanding of technology.
- Create momentum by inspiring the people.
- Lead and train (team)leaders.
- Substantial Management and leadership knowledge.
- Find solutions through pragmatic mindset.
- Very good English language skills (written & spoken).
- Strategic mindset regarding future technology (roadmaps).
