Senior Specialist in Short-Term Energy Trading

POSITION OVERVIEW

Our mission is to facilitate BASF's access to renewable energy through active participation in the generation of renewable electricity, establishing long-term supply agreements, and integrating renewable energy into BASF's production framework.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • As a Senior Expert in Short-Term Trading, you will play a pivotal role in designing frameworks and supporting the establishment of a team dedicated to both manual and automated intraday trading.
  • Your responsibilities will include trading in day-ahead and intraday markets to effectively manage our renewable energy portfolio, BASF-owned combined heat and power (CHP) plants, and site energy requirements.
  • You will formulate optimization strategies for renewable energy generation from our assets, utilizing continuous analysis of diverse market and weather data to inform trading decisions and enhance profitability.
  • Additionally, you will critically assess existing solutions and processes to drive improvements.
  • Your role will also involve overseeing operations management within the business management team, focusing on market access and balancing models.
  • Moreover, you will integrate BASF-owned CHP plants, renewable projects, and power purchase agreements (PPAs) into the BASF Renewable Energy business framework.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree in physics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, or economics.
  • Proven experience in short-term energy trading.
  • In-depth knowledge of power markets and regulatory frameworks across EU countries.
  • Experience in understanding power markets and developing new business initiatives.
  • A proactive and entrepreneurial mindset, with a strong focus on results, a commercial approach, and the ability to work independently under pressure.
  • A collaborative team player with exceptional communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken; proficiency in German is an advantage.
