PhD Student (f/m/d) in Electron Diffraction

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD student to join our team at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) in the field of electron diffraction. The successful candidate will work on the development of novel methods and instrumentation for MeV-UED, pushing the boundaries of established capabilities.

Your Tasks:
  • Contribute to the design and construction of a novel experimental station for MeV-UED
  • Develop and adapt existing x-ray diffraction codes for the analysis of electron diffraction images
  • Perform simulations of electron-matter interaction and develop detection schemes based on the outcomes
  • Collaborate with other facilities operating in the field of electron diffraction
Your Profile:
  • Master's degree in physics, engineering, or material science or related field
  • Knowledge and interest in electron-matter interaction or willingness to build an understanding of this field
  • Basic understanding of accelerator science
  • Excellent social and communicative skills, ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
  • Programming skills in MATLAB, Python, or similar
