Job Description

The Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher to work on a Master's thesis project. The project aims to develop a data-driven platform that integrates chemical exposure and biodiversity data, creating sophisticated visual insights into the regions where chemical concentrations impact biodiversity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a ChatBot Python package using large language models (LLMs) and a knowledge graph of information on researchers, their roles, and research.
  • Integrate chemical exposure and biodiversity data using retrieval augmented generation (RAG) to mitigate knowledge gaps, factuality issues, and hallucinations of (ungrounded) LLMs.
  • Design and develop compelling, partially interactive visuals to demonstrate the potential impact of chemicals in our environment on changes in biodiversity.

Requirements

  • Background in Computer Science
  • Solid programming skills in Python and/or R
  • Experience with software development in an IDE (JetBrains PyCharm)
  • Experience with collaborative software development and agile project management with Git
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
