Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in pioneering research focused on the genesis and temporal dynamics of magmatic-hydrothermal or magmatic mineral deposits of strategic and essential metals within the continental crust (70% of the role)
  • Support the functionality of radiogenic isotope laboratory facilities, encompassing clean environments, thermal ionization, and multi-collector-inductively coupled mass spectrometers (30% of the role)
  • Initiate and develop independent research projects concerning metal cycling and the genesis of premier ore deposits in the continental crust
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and scientific dialogue with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide regular updates to collaborators, publish peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals, create open-access datasets, and present findings at conferences and workshops
  • Actively participate and contribute to Section 3.1, the GFZ, and the wider scientific community

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in a field related to geosciences or analytical chemistry applicable to geosciences
  • Foundational knowledge in areas such as magmatic or magmatic-hydrothermal systems in the continental crust, formation of critical and strategic metal deposits (e.g., Cu, Ni, platinum group elements, rare earth elements), radiogenic isotope systematics and analyses, and elemental cycling in continental crustal materials
  • Proven experience in clean laboratory environments, operating thermal ionization mass spectrometers (Triton) and Neptune multi-collector ICP-MS instruments
  • Demonstrated capability in troubleshooting and performing basic maintenance on analytical instruments
  • Familiarity with the analysis and interpretation of various geochemical data types (e.g., bulk rock lithogeochemistry, stable isotopic data) is advantageous
  • Documented experience in publishing high-quality research in scientific journals
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team, adhere to deadlines, and thrive in an interdisciplinary setting
  • Evidence of leadership skills
  • Proficient spoken and written English is essential; knowledge of German or a willingness to learn is beneficial
