Job Summary

2140 K-T GMBH is seeking a skilled Optical Systems Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for analyzing and improving manufacturing processes, designing and implementing optical systems, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze technical manufacturing and field-related issues, using diagnostics, protocols, and theory of operations to identify solutions and present them to the field support team or management for standardization.
  • Implement optical alignment and metrology processes or test/tooling fixtures to improve manufacturing cycle time or cost.
  • Design and specify optical components and subsystems, such as lasers, LEDs, optical filters, cameras, sensors, and lens assemblies, for illumination, imaging, and microscope systems.
  • Follow a design process, performing reviews, technical alignment with vendors, first-article inspection, testing, prototype integration, and design release.
  • Generate and maintain process and equipment work instructions, drawings, and other production documents to conform to specifications.
  • Collaborate with the Quality and Purchasing departments to resolve component/part quality problems, drive overall supplier quality improvements, and cost reductions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physics or an optic-related subject, with 1-5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Ability to understand optical subsystems and their interface with other subsystems, such as mechanical and electrical.
  • Basic experience with optical designs and simulations in Zemax.
  • Programming capabilities with MATLAB or Python for user interfaces.
  • Able to present and communicate technical data.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a demanding environment with changing workloads and deadlines.
  • Experience working in a multi-discipline and multi-culture global team.
  • Experience with spectroscopy, coatings, and optomechanics is a plus.
