About the Opportunity

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is seeking a highly motivated and skilled student to work on a Master's thesis project focused on plant growth simulation under various lighting conditions. This project is part of our research group's efforts to develop innovative solutions for sustainable energy production and efficient use of land resources.

Project Overview

The project involves simulating plant growth under different lighting conditions using advanced software tools such as DSSAT, WOFOST, or ExpertN. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing and summarizing existing literature on plant growth under partial shading
  • Conducting plant growth simulations using the selected software tools and modifying the corresponding Python scripts to ensure applicability to various crops
  • Evaluating the performance of the software tools and researching potential alternatives
  • Exploring possible research focuses, such as simulating legume growth or crop-specific evapotranspiration
Requirements

To be considered for this opportunity, you should have:

  • A strong background in agronomy, biology, or a related field
  • Basic knowledge of plant physiology or a willingness to develop this expertise
  • A high level of interest in renewable energy, sustainability, and resource efficiency
  • Experience with Python or similar programming languages is a plus
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to draw meaningful conclusions from data
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent written and spoken German language skills, with good English language skills

Additional Information

In addition to the Master's thesis project, you will be employed as a research assistant with a contract based on your academic degree. Your salary will be commensurate with your level of education.
