Position: AWS AI Research & Engineering (AIRE) Scientist/Engineer
AWS AI Research & Engineering (AIRE) is seeking talented scientists and engineers to enhance the optimization of foundational models for inference.

Your role will involve the invention, implementation, and deployment of cutting-edge machine learning algorithms and systems aimed at refining the inference capabilities of foundational models.

Team Overview: The Utility Computing (UC) team drives product innovations across foundational services, contributing to AWS's distinct offerings in the industry.
As part of the UC organization, you will play a role in the development and management of services related to Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Applications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- PhD or Master's degree with relevant experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related discipline
- Proven track record of patents or publications in top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, or similar
- Experience in Machine Learning applications
- Knowledge of mathematical optimization, parallel and distributed computing, and high-performance computing
- Strong technical understanding of contemporary deep learning architectures, including Transformers
- Familiarity with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch
- Experience programming hardware accelerators (e.g., GPU / TPU / Neuron)
- Expertise in optimizing inference for foundational models (e.g., model compression techniques such as distillation, pruning, sparsification, quantization; architectural optimization; decoding optimization; system-level optimization)
- Knowledge of inference engines (e.g., vLLM, TGI)
