Job Title: Market Risk Analyst

We are seeking a highly skilled Market Risk Analyst to join our Risk Management Team in Düsseldorf. As a Market Risk Analyst, you will play a critical role in identifying, analyzing, and managing risks in Uniper's long-term portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify and analyze risks in Uniper's long-term portfolio, with a focus on cross-commodity risks (Power, Gas, LNG, etc.)
  • Participate in the approval of complex and large strategic investment decisions
  • Ensure that all exposures generated from complex or long-term deals are fully understood, including independently assessing overlooked risks
  • Follow valuation principles in accordance with financial and management accounting requirements
  • Agree on hedging strategies if necessary
  • Write concise decision support briefs, providing formal approval or veto
  • Collaborate with the wider market risk area to develop methodologies for extending forward curves beyond the liquid transparent tenor for the valuation of long-term deals
  • Support the development and maintenance of asset-backed risk models, including calibration of such models
  • Engage in innovative tasks for Risk Management, such as designing methodologies to quantify risks outside of established risk metrics
  • Conduct scenario analysis and simulation for the wider Uniper portfolio, collaborating with the quantitative team to further develop risk assessment methods
  • Represent and present Uniper strategic risks to senior stakeholders and management
  • Think commercially about the development and implementation of new products and hedging tools in markets and steer new business approvals
  • Build a solid, commercially oriented, cooperative environment with involved functions, encouraging cross-team cooperation and communication on portfolio questions
  • Understand front-to-end processes and work effectively across all levels of the organization to challenge, promote dialogue, and drive cooperation
  • Contribute to holistic risk awareness and the promotion of risk management across the business
Requirements:
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with a broader understanding of the industry
  • Knowledge of market risk concepts and statistics
  • Background in Business, Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent education
  • Relevant experience in risk/asset management or trading within an investment bank or energy trading company
  • Learner mindset, strong analytical orientation, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to simplify and streamline complex content into quickly and easily understandable concepts/messages
  • Ability to engage in balanced and independent interaction with commercial teams
  • Commercially oriented individual with strong focus on accuracy of information and attention to details
  • Profound usage of different risk models and methodologies to model real-world commercial contracts
  • Ability to manage interface to quant teams
  • Strong programming skills (SQL is a must), preferably Python
  • Strong team player with experience of working in an international and multicultural team
  • Fluent in English (additional languages welcome)
