We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our team at the Fraunhofer Institute for High-Speed Dynamics, Ernst-Mach-Institut, EMI. As a Research Scientist, you will be responsible for conducting research on behalf of our customers from various economic and political sectors, applying the latest findings from science and research to concrete projects.
Your Key Responsibilities- Develop physics-based models and efficient algorithms for our CFD tool, the »APOLLO Blastsimulator«, to expand our services in the field of hydrogen safety.
- Improve our interfaces for fluid-structure coupled simulations with e.g., LS-Dyna or our finite element code SOPHIA.
- Collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary »APOLLO Blastsimulator« development team.
- Manage projects with public and industrial clients, becoming the qualified and competent contact person for our internal and external customers in the field of hydrogen safety.
- University degree (Master/Diploma) in Engineering, an applied natural science, or a related STEM subject, PhDs welcome.
- Profound knowledge in both fluid and thermo dynamics, as well as in numerical methods for CFD and structural mechanics.
- Ability to conduct simulation studies on HPC systems on your own, ideally with OpenFOAM or Ansys Fluent, with experience in programming (Fortran, C++) and relevant IDEs and parallelization strategies.
- Independent, communicative, and structured way of working, enriching the interdisciplinary teamwork of our department.
- German and English language skills of at least C1 level in spoken and written.

The position is initially limited to 2 years, with a weekly working time of 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
