Artificial Intelligence Engineer for Solar Power Plant Optimization

The German Aerospace Center's (DLR) Institute of Solar Research is seeking an Artificial Intelligence Engineer to join our team. This role involves developing and testing machine learning methods for intelligent and autonomous solar tower power plants.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement cutting-edge machine learning techniques, including inverse Deep Learning Raytracing (iDLR), to predict heliostat surface conditions
- Work on setting up a heliostat digital twin for new heliostat types and validating it against real data
- Train deep learning models using simulated data from the raytracing environment and transfer them to real data
- Collaborate with experts in modeling machine learning pipelines and experimental validation
We are looking for a highly motivated individual who can work independently on state-of-the-art deep learning models. The ideal candidate will have excellent knowledge of Python and PyTorch, as well as prior experience in deep learning, ideally image generation.
The selected candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary and international team of scientists from engineering, physics, informatics, and mathematics. Our departments have experts who will support you in your tasks.

Requirements:- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., machine learning, computer science, mechanical engineering, mathematics, physics)
- Excellent programming skills in Python and PyTorch
- Prior experience in deep learning, ideally image generation
- Good English skills necessary for studying technical literature
This position offers a competitive salary, up to €65,000 per year, depending on qualifications and job requirements. The contract duration is 9 months, starting on December 1, 2024.
