The Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) invites applications for a DLR-DAAD Doctoral Researcher position in the field of Transfer Learning for Variable Underwater Sensor Setups. As part of our Institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructures, you will contribute to the development of cutting-edge security technologies for maritime applications.
About the Position
The successful candidate will focus on the portability of deep learning algorithms for underwater sensor data, analyzing how machine learning and data processing methods behave when training and test data differ. This involves selecting, analyzing, and implementing current approaches and methods from the scientific machine learning and deep learning communities.
Your Responsibilities
- Develop and apply machine learning and deep learning algorithms for underwater sensor data
- Collaborate with our team of scientists to advance security technologies for maritime applications
- Plan and execute data gathering campaigns in maritime environments
- Publish research findings at international conferences and in journals
Requirements
- Master's degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, or related fields
- Excellent knowledge of modern programming paradigms, object-oriented and functional languages
- Experience in deep learning approaches and data processing
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken
- Strong analytical and creative thinking skills
- Team-minded, communicative, and cooperative
- Knowledge of Linux, Windows, LaTeX, Office, and version control using Git
- Experience in research projects with industry and academia partners
- Experience in maritime projects and/or with maritime sensors
- Proficiency in German, both written and spoken
- Experience in managing large data sets
- Published research papers in relevant topics
- Strong knowledge in algorithms and data structures
